  • The journey of Coastal GP Menopause Consultancy is a narrative of personal experience, professional evolution, and a commitment to addressing a significant gap in women's healthcare.

Dr. Lorraine Kemp, a friendly and approachable GP, found her passion for menopause care ignited by her own experience with early menopause following the birth of her third child. This pivotal moment not only shaped her understanding of the physical and emotional challenges women face during this transition but also fuelled her desire to advocate for better support and care.

Dr. Kemp earned her medical degree and Bachelor of Science in Gastroenterology from Imperial College London in 2008. Following her education, she undertook competitive training in Emergency Medicine and General Practice across London, gaining invaluable experience in acute care and community services. With over 18 years in both the NHS and private sectors, she has developed a multifaceted approach to patient care.

Dr. Kemp's diverse background includes serving as the Clinical Lead for a local district general hospital's Urgent Treatment Centre and providing online GP services for a leading private medical insurer. Her work in menopause clinics and her role as an NHS GP solidified her expertise in women's health. She recognised the health inequalities many women face, particularly concerning perimenopause care, which often lacks alignment with evidence-based practices.

A significant innovation in Dr. Kemp's practice emerged through her work in NHS menopause clinics, where she developed pioneering group consultation sessions. Rather than limiting care to individual appointments, she recognised the power of combining expert guidance with peer support, enabling women to learn from one another's experiences whilst receiving personalised, evidence-based care.

This innovative approach caught the attention of menopause expert Kate Muir, who met Dr. Kemp at a Big Sister event. Kate described Dr. Kemp's NHS group consultations as pioneering, recognising their value as a model for modern menopause care. In her commentary, Kate highlighted how group sessions provide women with more detailed information whilst creating a mini support network—an approach she advocated for adoption across surgeries and organisations. Dr. Kemp has since extended this successful model to businesses, establishing group consultations as a standard offering in her consultancy services.

With her extensive clinical experience, recognition from leading menopause advocates, and a deep understanding of the challenges women face, Dr. Kemp established Coastal GP Menopause Consultancy to provide specialised, evidence-based care at scale. The consultancy was born from her vision of creating a supportive environment where women can receive individualised care tailored to their unique experiences, whether through individual consultations, pioneering group sessions, or organisational support.

Frequently asked questions

  • We off remote consultations via a secure video link and face to face appointments at The Clinic by La Ross, 10a Centre Court, Rochester, Kent ME2 4BQ.

  • Please note if an appointment is cancelled with less than 24 hours notice you will still be charged the appointment fee. We require at least 48 hours notice if you wish to reschedule or cancel your appointment without charge.

For cancellations with more than 24 hours notice but less than 48 hours notice, a cancellation fee of 50% of the appointment charge may be charged.

If you have any difficulty cancelling, please contact us.

  • There are options. Often hormonal blood tests are not required for diagnosing and treating perimenopause and menopause, but we do often require blood tests to exclude other causes of fatigue and screening for cardiovascular risk factors such as cholesterol and diabetes. We also need a baseline testosterone level before initiating testosterone.

We can provide the recommended blood tests depending on the individual requirements. The patients can have self test blood tests at additional cost, or discuss the suggested tests with their NHS GP

We use a company called The Doctors Laboratory. We order the tests and they send you a kit to take the blood from a finger prick, with instructions and then you post it back to them. They give us the result to release to you. The samples are posted back to them and they process the results within 48 hours.

  • Yes, we pride ourselves on our personal service and continuity of care is important to us. We are happy to answer any email query after a consultation. If a follow up appointment is required we have two options. A 30 minute consultation or a 15 minute check in.

The pharmacist will charge for the private prescription medicine and this is not available through NHS prepayment cards. There is a cost at the pharmacy for private prescriptions. Any repeat prescriptions outside of the consultation have a charge of £25 plus the pharmacy cost of the medication. This service is only available for patients who have had a consultation within 12 months.

If they prefer an NHS prescription we can write to your NHS GP with our treatment recommendations. NHS prescriptions for HRT are best paid for with a prescription prepayment card. Please see the link: https://www.gov.uk/get-a-ppc/hrt-ppc

Law update

In March 2026, the UK government launched plans for making workplaces fairer by tackling the gender pay gap and menopause support, under the Employment Rights Act 2025. From April 2026, companies with over 250 employees can voluntarily publish plans, choosing two tailored actions from government guidance, before it becomes mandatory by 2027.

Here’s what you need to know to get ahead:

  • What’s Required: Employers must pick at least one action for the pay gap and one for menopause support.

  • Key Dates: Voluntary publishing begins April 2026, with mandatory reporting expected by April 2027.

  • Where to Publish: Plans will be published on the official Gender Pay Gap Portal.

  • Action Ideas: Examples include mentoring programmes, transparent pay, flexible work options, and enhanced menopause action plans.

  • Why Now: This helps businesses attract and retain talent by creating supportive environments, particularly to keep women progressing at work.
